Hello, I have done my best research, and can't figure out why the Mac OSX upgrade installation to Tiger keeps freezing while in the verification stage. It stays at about 2% and finally says there was an error installing the updater. Any advice please?

Its a g4 powerbook, 2003 model 15" with the superdrive.
The installer is on a CD
It currently has 10.3.9
It has more than 7GB space free
I have 1 GB RAM, and have tried removing my 3rd party RAM (leaving me with 512MB RAM) , but still no go.
I have tried Easy Install and Archive & Install
The beginning of the Installation process confirms that Installation can take place.
The DVD check checks out
I have tried 4 or 5 times and it always freezes at the same point while verifying (kind of in the beginning of the actuall installation process.
I have tried using Xpost Facto to no avail.

Thanks so much for your help,
Michael

What version of the 10.4 installer is it? 10.4.2? 10.4.8? 10.4?

Is your disk good? Can you skip verification?

Thanks for the reply,
The DVD is just version 10.4, it says Tiger includes xcode 2 on the DVD face. As for skipping verify, it doesn't give me that option, wether or not I am doint an Easy Install or custom install. Any ideas? Thanks,

Michael

Probably asking the obvious but you did backup all important files and Repair Permissions before attempting the installation?

Thanks All, 10.4 finally installed. Who knows why, but I
removed 3rd party memory
Ran Disk Warrior, from another Mac on my drive
Repaired permissions
Removed all peripherals
And did an "Erase and Install"
