Guys, where can i find some Cool Software and Utilities for OS 8 (all i have is a bare system with Stuffit! LOL)? i looked on Versiontracker, but its very hard to Distinguish OS 8 / 9 etc!
If you have any friends who used to get the Mac Addict magazine when 8 was hip you could find a wealth of good stuff. I don't know if Mac Addict has an online archive but you might search around for stuff like that.

... is there a version of appleworks for OS 8, that kinda thing?!
Neyo... I think most people will agree with me on this one.... but the vast majority of software that is made for "OS 9" or the "Classic Mac OS" will run on both Mac OS 8 through Mac OS 9... not that much was done "under the hood" between these two systems. So if something runs in 9, i'll probably run in 8. Often, you can even run apps from System 7, if they're not system utilities, usually.
There's no difference in Mac OS 8 or 9 software. You'll need 68K or FAT applications (which contain both PPC and 68K code). System 7.x software will run fine. Upgrade to Mac OS 8.1 if you can (or is that Mac OS X 8.1 now?).
You'll find much software in ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror/info-mac/ ... or in the same folder on your (more local) SunSite mirror. Much of the archive is very, very old software. Fun titles, too.
I beg to differ on the OS 8 - OS 9 software being always compatible. Does no one remember when OS 9 came out? Remember ALL those various pieces of software not wanting to run under OS 9 and having to be updated?
MOST software that will run under OS 9 will run under OS 8. Not ALL of it will, though.
I remember problems going from 7.X to 8, and problems going from 8 to 9. Am I the only one that remembers software companies releasing updates to make sure their software ran under OS 9?
Clarisworks was what earlier versions of Appleworks became. Then 2 years ago, give or take a year, Apple brought the Appleworks title back to Clarisworks. If I'm not mistaken, and I very well could be, Claris was originally a part of Apple then got spun off, but then reacquired by Apple sans FileMaker which then became it's own company. Does this make sense at all? Again, I could be wrong. Let me know if I am.
yes there *were* some troubles with os 8 software in os 9 (and os 7 software in os 8), but we're talking about a person who uses os 8, and this person will perfectly be able to use os 9 software. it's the OTHER way round here.
for a browser in os 8, use iCab 68k. everything else will be too lame nowadays.
I've a Few things downloaded, i haven't tried them yet, but i am Curious, Were early Verions of Excel And Word, Really this Small, of are they just some Crap?! LOL!
