alright my supervisor bought a mac from a military auction, it did not have a hard drive in it( its a g4 btw). He bought osx tiger for it, couldnt get it to boot, someone told me i need 9.whatever to update the firmware, i buy the 9.2.2 and all it comes up with is apple hardware test cannot support this system, shutdown or restart. i am in despart need to fix this and get an os installed on this stupid mac. any help at all please. i have had it for about a month and tried everything i know. i am usually microsoft person trying to fix a mac. the disc i have says "additional software and apple hardware test, includes mac os 9.2.

It quite probably is a G4 that doesn't boot OS 9 anymore and you _will_ have to install OS X on it. I'd try again with Tiger. Can you somehow find out what _exactly_ is the type of the machine? Any books come with it?

Generally speaking, Tiger comes as a DVD these days... If your G4 doesn't have a drive that can read DVDs, then it'll have some problems booting off of a Tiger DVD.hazydream said:

No, i got it to install tiger but after rebooting it wouldnt boot up tiger. so i know its got a dvd rom. someone told me i need updated firmware in order to run tiger. i will check when i get off work as much as i can about this machine. but it loaded os x tiger fine, but after restarting to try to boot the os it wouldnt detect anything. thats where my problem lies, somone told me to get os 9 and try to install then do a firmware upgrade. i dont know what to do with this blasted thing. any help would be great. (and sorry about posting in the how to and faq's section, my bad)
