Mac OS X crash/reset

Hi all, my wife was using her macbook and had some issues with firefox and with it's various tool bars. To reset she pulled out the power cord (her batter doesn't work, so this shuts off her computer). When she turned it on, her account had return to the default/factory software settings.

I first thought that it had wiped her HD, but then switched to my account and everything was as I had set it. Nothing was reset.

Any ideas as to why only her account had been restored to factory settings? I am not familiar with mac os x, so is there a way to system restore from a previous state?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, for one, you should never just pull the plug on your computer. If your computer freezes, then you should hold the power button until your computer turns off.

Is all of your wife's data still there? How about the Applications? If so, then all you have to do is reconfigure you preferences to get everything to return to normal.

The data is gone as well. I was just curious, because if it wiped the HD then the data on the other account should be gone as well, but it isn't. That leads me to believe that the data is still on the HD, unless os x isolated each individual account, but that doesn't sound right as it would eat at the resources.
