Mac OS X crashing with Apple Works 6

I'm using a Mac OS X version 10.2.8 and when I use Apple works 6 there is an intermittent crash when attempting to save. Plus the original document appears to disappear from the desk top. I'd save a version of the document, when the program was working in e-mail. I can download it to the desktop but when I do it says it already exists, still I can't see it and "find" doesn't find it.
I'm saving it as a Word Mac 6 Doc

I went on from there to describe a problem that's since evolved into a nightmare!
To hell with the AppleWorks prob.; found a work-around anyway.
The problem is Mac's TechHelp:
First they had me reload the OS which took it from 10.2.8 back to 10.2. Promptly, a new printer and the CD burner stopped working.
Then, through 6 (!) more lengthy tech calls and gruesome software experiences, they still can't get me back from 10.2 to 10.2.8!!!
Arrrggggh!
Why don't the upgrade packages they had me download work?
They don't know!
And, we've run two full repair checks on the HD.
HELP!!!
