Mac OS X Epson Printer Problems

I have a g4 and an epson stylus photo 820 printer. My problem is I can't print from any other application than textedit . For example when I want to print in appleworks (6.2.4) or dreamweaver mx it will tell me there is "no printer selected". I go to "edit printer list" and it will show me two printers in the printcenter: A "stylus photo 820" and a "SP820 series (usb)". When I believe what's written in the manual the second one is the right one. The "SP820 series (usb)" is the driver that came on the cd but the "stylus photo 820" shows up automatically.......

Whatever, both won't work. I can only print in Textedit. The newest Driver from the epson page does not work either....

Another thing: when I go to "add" in the Printcenter and on to usb, it shows a "stylus photo 820" and it says, "driver not installed"!

What should I do???

I had this same problem. I have an Epson Stylus Color 800. I didn't feel the need to buy another printer, even though they are so inexpensive.

If your running OSX which it sounds like you are, use can load GIMP Print. Check it out on www.versiontracker.com. or use this link

Follow the directions and it works. Sometimes it will lose communications after logging off but it is easily fixed by unplugging the USB cable, wait ~10 sec and plug back in.

Since you are seeing it then I guess you have an serial to USB adapter. I had to buy one and the Belkin one works and the Keyspan does not.

I suggest you get Print Center Repair. Depending on exactly what version OS X, depends on which version or Print Center Repair to download. You can find it at versiontracker.com

Once downloaded, place it in your utilities folder. Now I suggest you read the Read Me. It explains each step. If none of those steps help, then have it delete the printers, install a fresh copy of the driver.

By the way, did you check Apple's web site or Epson's for an update to the driver? I have found that Epson is better with their drivers than HP. I have an HP photosmart to print out pictures and once I installed the latest driver for it, it decided that everything was to be printed on 4 X 6 paper no matter what printer is chosen. I had to get rid of all the photosmart drivers. :(
 
Here's a second vote for GIMP Print. I use it, love it...can't live without out it.

The 820 works fine in 10.2.4. Try deleting the printers in print center and restart and then add the 820 again.

Can you print borderless 8x10 with the Jag drivers? I was never able to and that's why I went with GIMP.

I really would like to know how you have your stuff setup.

Even with GIMP, I still regularly boot into 9 to do color critical printing from photoshop. If you know of a way to avoid this, I would be very interested in hearing it.

Almost borderless, but not quite. I went to Gimp because of this but had problems after that. Deleted everything then installed Epsons latest drivers and it's been working fine.
 
I tried Print Center repair and it did not work......

then I tried GIMP and installed the Printer like shown.....but I still can't print in carbon apz like Appleworks, Dreamweaver......

I then found ghostscript espgs-7.05.5-0.ppc.dmg
That should fix the problem....

....stil does not work.

You want the .dmg file. Once downloaded, double click on it.

Did you use Print Center Repair to totally erase your print drivers so you could install a fresh copy? The epson driver does work. Exactly what version of OS X are you using? Do you have the latest update for AppleWorks? Can you print from any other program such as email?
 
I cleand up everything with Print Center Repair, and did a fresh install....

I got OS X 10.2.4, Appleworks 6.2.4, the epson driver I downloaded is called: epson10525.sea.hqx
I also tried epson10071.sea.hqx

I can't print from Appleworks, Dreamweaver.
It works in Mail, Acrobat Reader and textedit.

The problem is that driver is for use with Macintosh OS X (v10.1.3 to 10.1.5) only.

I do believe that the correct driver you need is on the Jaguar CD. It should be on CD #2.
 
I deleted everything again with Print center repair......and installed the driver from cd 2.

I had to add the driver manually into the Print Center. The driver is called "SP820 Series(USB)".
But I still can't print from Appleworks......

And it automatically added "Stylus Photo 820" again....

Could GIMP be the problem now??? is there a uninstaller????

Would it maybe help to upgrade to 10.2.5??
 
You should still have the GIMP installer. Double click on that. When the installer window comes up with easy install, there should be a pull down menu or a button to select custom or uninstall. Now you should be able to uninstall GIMP.

As for printing in AppleWorks... did you check the pageset up?

Upgrading to 10.2.5 just might correct things as that update does correct many bugs.
