Mac OS X Install Disks

Hi,

I was just wondering, can I use the Mac OS X Install Disks which came with my MacBook 3.1, to upgrade my Old iMac PowerPC G4 from 10.2.8 to 10.4.x or 10.5.x (what ever is on the disk), and would I also have to do a clean install and lose all my files?

Thanks

No. Search the board -- plenty of discussion on this exact topic.

The CDs/DVDs that shipped with one model of Macintosh computer are useless on any other model of Macintosh computer.

You need the retail version of an operating system to upgrade from an older version of OS X, the original disks that came with a different Mac won't work, as EDCC said.

NO!!!! I honestly don't understand, discs that come with other computers, are COMPUTER SPECIFIC!!!

Buy a retail copy from apple.

:)

There's *NO* machine-specific OS X disk that came with a MacBook that would install on a G4 machine.
