Hey Everybody,

Im a new mac user and new to the fourm.

This morning when I woke up my Mac Mail on MAC OS X won't let me send or receive messages.

It gives me the following message:

"Error - This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The sender address myemail@mac.com was rejected by the server"

I didn't change any of my settings on Mac Mail - does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks !

It's possible this problem has now been solved, and that it had nothing to do with you. The .Mac mail system occasionally has outages, which are reported on the main .Mac support page. You could also re-enter your account settings, as described here, and see if that helps.

There's a couple of things to keep in mind here... In E-Mail, you'll have two servers. One's responsible for getting mail (and for that _only_) and one for sending mail (SMTP). So if _sending_ a message is the problem, you'll have to look at the SMTP server setup.
In the past few years, e-mail services have started to lock down on spam, so most SMTP-servers only work with authentication - or an ISP's SMTP may only work when connected to the 'net through that ISP. This means that if you change location, the SMTP just might not work and you'll have to select another one. This, however, is not a problem with most SMTPs using authentication.

The most overlooked problem, however, is that the recipient field might be filled out incorrectly. Even if you look at it three or four times, you might miss a space character which shouldn't be there. Or there could be a "," instead of a "." in the domain name. Or a full address (i.e. "Full Name" - <address@server.com>) might be formatted incorrectly. Or if you have more than one recipient, these might somehow get interlaced. I've seen many things in users' recipient fields as a supporter. They claim to have double-checked EVERYTHING twice, yet there I was looking at a recipient field saying "mary" without an E-Mail address. Or the aforementioned spaces and commas...

But yes, it could also simply be a hiccup of the SMTP server which would be solved in short time.

'I didn't change any of my settings on Mac Mail - does anyone know how I can fix this?' ...

01. The e-Mail address of the e-Mail message may no longer exist.
02. The respective e-Mail server is down (for repairs, updates, etc.)
03. 'myemail@mac.com' may have been black listed.
04. All other possibilities.
