mac os x, new macs and sound

is there any hd recordig apps or sound apps that works with os x at all?

since new macs doesnt come with a sound in device, where do i get good usb alternatives with more than one line in?


does anyone have any experience with sound production on the new macs, and/or os x?

OS X and HD recording: a tough issue for a preemptively multitasking system, exactly because an application cannot hog the hardware; Mach should, however, have some built in realtime capabilities.

USB sound devices with more than 1 stereo channel: none, because the required bandwidth is not really there; MOTU has an 8 channel FireWire device, though. Anything above that will require dedicated PCI adapters, or the use of gigabit Ethernet as transport medium (please, don't laugh at that idea; there are people building SCSI RAID boxes using SCSI over Gb Ether, because Gb Ether is cheaper and better standardized than FibreChannel; no, they don't run IP over that Gb Ether--just SCSI)
