mac osx and iomega

well in my continuing discovery of the benefits and shortfalls of mac osx - begining to love it, really - I can't get it to read my iomega 2gb jaz.

it's connected via a scsi to usb, i have downloaded iomega's latest software and well... the jaz just ain't there.

system profiler recognises the scsi to usb connection but that's it. no jaz on the desktop. all works fine in 9.2.2 of course...

any ideas?

JM

julianem- Since browni's Jaz drives seem to work directly hooked up to the computer, maybe your USB to SCSI adapter needs a driver. Might want to visit the vendor's website to download it, if it exists.

listen. you guys aren't getting it. the jaz works fine on 9.2.2 It doesn't work on OSX.even with the latest software...

here's a note from iomega themselves:

"As you have mentioned that you are using the SCSI to USB adapter with Iomega Jaz Drive. Please note that Iomega does not have any drivers for SCSI to USB adapter which supported with Mac OS X.

You may use the Jaz Drive on Mac OS X connected the Jaz drive on Parallel or SCSI port."

So any fresh ideas?

Thanks

JM

If you have a desktop computer.... such as a PowerMac G3 or G4, you could buy yourself a SCSI card and put that in your computer, giving you the needed SCSI port.

Is it an Iomega USB->SCSI adapter? If not, you're looking the wrong place. You need to try the vendor's web site, not Iomegas.

Browni - you trying to break some record for sig length?! :)

factor41....

no it's an iomega scsi to usb adapter. clearly branded on the box

have we shut down all the possibilities now? I don't think it's going to work. I don't think iomega considered than anyone hip enough to get a new imac would still be arsed with an iomega jaz, is what i think. so there's no solution.....

or is there?

SCSI to Firewire could be worth a look! Belkin and ummm, Iomega make them. Specs just say 8.6 or later (Iomega) and 9.0 or later (Belkin). No mention of X.

Seems odd that they'd make it impossible, or at least very, very difficult to add SCSI to an OS X iMac after pushing it for so many years.

Well i run in X all the time and my Jaz works perfecly well!

All idi was plum it in to the back of my G4 and it worked

Factor41- there's a reccord lol :D

browni... is it plugged intio a usb socket from a scsi? Is it a new iMac? would it work if it was scsi to firwire? the truth is out there....

all right all right all right. the truth at last... from iomega, no less:

"As mentioned in our previous reply that the Jaz drive is not supported on Mac 10.2.2 with the SCSI to USB adapter as the drivers for the same are not developed by Iomega.

Apple changed a portion of their code that worked with IomegaWare drivers and our current version will no longer work. We are working with Apple on a solution and should have a working version soon.

Also note that Iomega does not manufactures or recommends any SCSI to FireWire converter. You may try using any third party adapter or converter, but we will not provide support for using SCSI to FireWire converter with our drive."

You are playing with some serious voodoo there. SCSI to USB coverter AND Jaz disks. Man, I wouldn't give a setup like that to my worst enemy.

I'm sure you have a fortune tied up in that Jazz drive, but if that stuff is really important to you, get another storage option. Jaz drives have some bad mojo. And SCSI conversions? *shudder* Buy a CD/RW-and get a priest to exorcise your computer.

If that doesn't work, try this: feed 4 pigeons whiskey until they're drunk, write the names of your enemy on pieces of paper torn from a bible, tie the paper to the pigeon's feet, let pigeons go at midnight, one to the North, one to the South, one to the East and one to the West, taking the name of your enemy with them.
