Mac OSX printing problems with Photoshop, Quark and Adobe Distiller

Printing to a HP laserjet 4MP and QMS 330 colour laser printer is at best, erratic.

A Quark v6.0 document will print without any Photoshop 7.0 images but as soon as there are any Photoshop images in the Quark document, the HP laserjet prints pages of 'one line' gobbleygook. Neither will the primary Photoshop image print to either the printers. I've tried various formats i.e. tif, eps, ascii, binary but nothing seems to work. The same applies to the QMS but this seems to have a mind of it's own anyway.

In order to overcome this problem, and I thought it might be a OS9 verus OSX problem, I've been postscripting the files in order to print. Since upgrading to QuarkXpress 6.0 and Acrobat Adobe Distiller 6.0 and generating a postscript file, Distiller now reports an error and will not distill a Quark document postscript with some Photoshop images. This is the error message I get from Distiller.

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: distillsave ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%

My Mac is one of only one on a PC network but now being completely OSX and I do have the latest 10.2.6 system software, I foolishly thought 'no more problems' and if I now sound erractic, please help me because this is driving me nuts.
