hi...i just got my new MacBook yesterday (i love it) and this is the first mac i have ever had.... can someone please help with with how i can get Mirc for mac and how to download from packetnews again???...i downloaded something called ircle but can't really see how it works...and is this the best irc client for mac???

thank you.

I've used a program called Colloquy for IRC. Worked great. However, the webpage isn't available and SourceForge.net doesn't have any of the files.

There's also X-Chat Aqua, which is based on X-Chat for Unix/Linux/Windows.

I've only used Ircle for older Macs like my 68K Macintosh Quadra 650.

Here's another page that you might want to check out:

mIRC is an IRC client. A lot of people in the Windows world talk like mIRC IS IRC, but it's just one client, the same way Firefox is just one web browser. mIRC is Windows-only, but there are plenty of other IRC clients for Mac.

In my opinion, Snak is the best IRC client for Mac. One advantage Snak has that I haven't seen in many other Mac browsers is that it supports non-standard text coloring like mIRC. If you use channels that rely on such coloring (with custom text AND background colors), then Snak is the way to go.

Conversation is another good one. Very basic and clean and easy to use, but it doesn't have anywhere near as many features as Snak.

X-Chat Aqua is another decent one, like HateEternal said.

Ircle is kind of old-school. I wouldn't recommend it, personally.

You can find all of these at http://www.macupdate.com
