Mac working extremely slow and freezing

Hello,

I am a rather new Mac user. So, still trying to familiarize myself with a Mac. My question will be very basic one.

While I was hoping to have a faster computer, unfortunately my Mac is quite slow. What I have is Macbook 120 GB. There is 27 GB left is the memory. I believe I need to upgrade RAM for better performance but have no idea where I can get it and basically, what to get.

My second question will be, I have 10.230 pictures, some of which are quite high resolution. Is there anyway possible to back them up and remove from my laptop keeping the same format that they have at iphoto. It took a long while to classify them and I don't want to lose it.

Thank you very much for your patience for my almost Mac for Dummies questions.

Well you Mac is screaming at you (and all Mac OS X Users) and you, as a user, is not listening .:) To listen just open /Applications/Utilities/Console to see all the logs tofind out what is going on. Plus in /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor to see if anything is running wild in the Mac.

Lastly have you run any maintenance on your Mac? Contrary to any hype you should have to run software maintenance once about every three months. Luckily there are two free applications that will do this for you. Just download either Yasu or Onyx and runn all the cleaning routines. Let the program reboot your Mac then manually reboot it again to completely rebuild all the startup/shutdown cache.

Good Luck.
