.Mac---->worth buying?

I've been interested in .Mac and it's services.

Don't really need .mac email, I have gmail.

But I want to know, is it any good?

Especially the homepage feature. Is that good? Does it have a pagebuilder, like geocities? ANd a domain?

I use .mac for
email (with imac and web access)
homepage (direct publish from iPhoto)
iDisk (sharing files, backup, sync two Macs)
free software (very very limited)
sharing bookmarks and addresses between Mac and PC
iCard (from time to time, no need for .mac membership indeed here)

For all that, it is worth my $99 !

Thanks for the fast, extremely fast, maybe too fast, reply.
lol

Whats the free software like? And theres no domain then for HP?

dotMac Software is Backup, iDisk utility, Slide publisher, Virex
Freeplay is short tracks to support iMovie or other GarageBand tracks

Norton Parental Support is... buggy (sorry Norton, but your software doesn't work as it should on my macs)
Skywalker Sounds is what its name suggests !

I havent tried the bookmarks feature yet......
I'm going to have a look at it now! :D

Go for it....knock yourself out...

(if you do knock yourself out, can I have your mac? :D )

Thanks for the replies

if you're not web (read: html) savvy, or just don't want to spend time thinking about posting pics to the web, then .mac is a great option.
but it costs a lot for extra space, so it depends on how you'll use it.

I don't use it, but my father in law does, and loves it.

LMAO!!! Haha that made my day.

Thanks for the advice people...I'm gonna try out the free trial. WHats that not include?

Oh and yea ill fx ma sig

If you take full advantage, .Mac is worth the money. I'd still like to see more space given and larger attachments for mail, but the iSync is great, being able to use my bookmarks and acccess my files, even at work and even on a Windoze XP machine, is also well worth it.
As well as having a quick and painless way to have photos and videos for the family to see in one area and a place for my clips and c/v and design work in another. And having a @mac.com e-mail is also nice.
Not to mention the free stuff that comes down the pike here and there.

Thanks for the info, I apologize about my sig.

Also, I realsied I can not sign up from a PC. As my powerbook is going to hit me in a few days (not literally...that'd still be amusing though), I was hoping to prepare soem of my work on the iDisk form the PC. I have the program installed. Seems like I cant sign upfor .mac though. :(

You should be able to connect your iDisk with your PC with iDisk for Windows.

I have had .mac since it came out, and use it less now that I am back in school but I still think it's great. The only thing is that the iDisk app for windows doesn't work 90% of the time for some reason.

One of the other cool things about .mac is the free software you get every so often. I think the last one I got was Wingnuts, which is like $20 or so in stores and is a cool little game to play off and on.

I was using it for 1 year and didn't extend. It's a nice service, but for $99 a year, I would expect much more.
