.Mac?

Alrighty, I like the idea of .Mac but if Apple starts to charge for the services I will go crazy...this is something M$ would do, not Apple :(

However, it sounds to me like they will charge for advanced features and still let you have the existing features free. I would be willing to pay $100/yr if they had:

Your own .mac domain (www.you.mac)
iDisk is also accessible with FTP apps
Larger iDisk

It would also be cool if they added your own .mac email address to the free service (you@apple.mac) However, as someone pointed out earlier, Apple has no control over the internet address extensions.

That's where you're wrong, seeing as Apple is clearly doing it ;) Also, the concept of "iTools Pro" (now dubbed .Mac) has been under development at Apple since the iTools suite of tools came out.

They will only charge for advanced services. The e-mail addresses (Mac.com), for instance, will not be affected. But there will never be a .mac top level domain, so "you.mac" is wishful thinking. Sorry.

I was not meaning Apple charging for iTools Pro is wrong...I was meaning if Apple took everything it had right now (iCards, Mail, iDisk, etc.) and started charging for them without offering a scaled down version free.

This does seem to be the way everything is turning out, at first, a company will give you something for free, get you hooked and then boot you out if you do not pay for it (kinda like "the first dose of drugs are always free" as I have heard) I just do not think Apple should stop offering free services (which it looks like they will continue offering free iTools) but iTools Pro could be a big income potential.

Also, about the .mac domain, yeah, just wishful thinking but hey, what are we supposed to be doing but to "think different" :D
