MacBook startup

When starting the MacBook the apple appears, then a screen appears with a black box saying (in several languages) restart your computer using the power button or the restart button.

Have tried taking out battery, resetting the pram, holding down coption comand, holdng down shift key. Nothing works. Is there anything I can do?

PS- where is the restart button?

There is no restart button on a MacBook. You simply hold the power button down until it turns off, then turn it back on.

What you're experiencing is a kernel panic -- those can be caused by any number of things, both hardware and software related. Are there any changes you've made to the operating system or the hardware itself? Added new memory/RAM? Perhaps have some USB devices connected to it?

My first inclination would be to return the machine to an "as stock as possible" configuration -- put back in the original Apple memory, etc. Boot from an alternate media -- like the OS X Install/Restore CD/DVD, and see if it occurs that way as well. If so, the problem is likely hardware-related. If not, perhaps it's software-related.

The macbooks are famous for failing hard drives without warning. Try booting to your install disk and go to disk utility to check the status of your HD.
