MacBook turns on by itself

I have just recently noticed that when I put my computer to sleep the Apple logo flashes every few seconds and that it gets out of sleep mode by itself. When I went to turn it off it quickly turned on again. It happens whether it is connected or not. I have tried a few things and this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1764969&tstart=0&start=15 but nothing has worked. I bought this computer last December, so it's still under warranty. I cant reset the SMC because the computer does not remain turned off, when I shut it down it automatically turns on again. Also I did a hardware test, both the short and the long ones and it said that there where no problems. I am a college student and I can't afford another computer so I am a bit scared that this is going to damage it. Sorry for my bad English.

An SMC reset involves you taking out the battery and disconnecting the power supply -- are you saying that even without a battery, and without a power supply connected, your computer still magically turns on?

If so, wow -- contact Apple immediately! ;)

I think you may not be performing the SMC reset correctly, as there's no possible way for a laptop to power up without a battery and/or power supply.

Edit: Sorry, this is assuming you have a laptop that is pre-2009, like a MacBook.

If you have a MacBook Air or newer model MacBook Pro, then yes, the power adaptor must be connected. Are you sure the power button isn't perhaps stuck halfway in the depressed position or something like that?
