MacOS Leopard Spaces password screen saver problem

Hi,

My system:

hardware: MacBook Pro 15" 2007 vintage, using external monitor and laptop display simulateneously

System Software Overview:

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0
Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
Boot Mode: Normal

I am running Spaces with 4 spaces defined. I have the standard MacOS screen saver cutting in after 10 minutes of inactivity and requiring a password to unlock the system.

The problem: quite often if I am in a Space other than the first space and the screen save cuts in, when I try to unlock the system, the password screen does not appear. It is as if the screen saver is locked to Space no. 1 and therefore does not appear, so i have no way of unlocking the locked system. The only way out is to power down the MacBook by holding down the power button and the rebooting. I have tried all of the normal keys that would switch me back to Space no. 1 such as Cmd+1 but all keys are locked in screen saver mode. This problem also existed in Tiger.

Thank you in advance

Hi ElDiablo,

Lamentablemente nada - it was the first thing that I usually try. The input focus is not on the password field, so all I get when I try to enter the password is the 'boing-boing' sound that my input is being rejected.

Best Regards,

AZ

Try trashing Screen Saver preferences (com.apple.screensaver.plist) and logging out/in. Tiger didn't have Spaces, so it might not be Spaces-related.
