macosx mail password

I can't remember the password for my macosx e-mail account and I can't find any topics about it.

How do I retrieve it / reset it?

The password is for your email provider, not the Mail app. Go to their website and request help; either password or reset.
 
OOPS.. I guess i mis-read your question:

"I thought I got the password here when I registered?"

You don't need a separate password for email on this forum, just log in, which I assume you already have since you've posted.
 
Sorry, I'm maybe being really stupid

I have a password to get on the forum, but as I am having problems with mac mail I decided to download thunderbird - everytime I enter the passwords I thought I initially created I get an error message:

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server mail.macosx.com responded: Login failed.

I am having problems with mac mail, so I downloaded Thunderbird. When I entered the passwords I thought it could be it says that mail server mail.macosx.com failed
 
Humm...now we're back to Mail app? Thunderbird is a good alternative. You're messing with me, right?

There is NO mail here on macosx.com; just a message system.

As originally posted, you'll need, apparently, to request help from your eMail provider as to incoming & outgoing address settings.

If, as you stated: "My ISP have been worse than useless", then it's time to get a new one!
 
Sorry it's me, I'm not messing

I just changed ISP and that's why I came here, mac mail was requesting a password for my macosx.com e-mail address and didn't seem to accept what I thought it was.

I have been on the phone to their technical help and that's where the worse from useless came from.

I downloaded Thunderbird but I can't use it because they want a password for the macosx.com address and I thought it came from here when I first obtained the address a few years ago.

So.......... I have now registered with iCloud and have a new e-mail address.

You do have a macosx.com email address. We no longer offer it except to those who still use it. I double checked and it shows as still active.

In your email program you need to change the user name to the full email address. That is you need to add @macosx.com to what you have in the user name box. You must also check the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server as well to show the user name as the full email address. Use SSL and Port 995 with password as authentication. We obviously can not discuss actual passwords on this forum but if you continue to have problems, go here
and site support will be able to help you.

One more thing...if you can’t get your macosx.com emails, you need to provide a different email address that you use to site support. Otherwise, emails will be waiting for you and you can’t access them.
