Well the other week end XP decided to crash for the last time, taking with it most of my work and photos blah blah blah!
I decided to go for a drive to cool down and put things into prespective, ended up coming home with a iMac.
Have to say, really enjoying the experience, the interface is great, the built in apps are quality and I have not used the XP machine for a while yet.

My only problem is it's a whole new OS to learn, so got any tips tricks or decent books to read for the beginner?

David Pogue's "OS X, The Missing Manual" is perfect. Gets into Unix stuff, but isn't overly geeky if you don't want that. There are better books for the Unix side. Pogue's is awesome if you just want to figure out where one thing from Windows went in OS X.

Get it.

Later,
Eddie

I did pick up "MacOSX in easy steps" and "The Little Mac iApps Book" along with the machine. Good read but I'm sure I will be using this forum more than them ;)

I never had any of those books but htey may be a good thing to view. I'd suggest also www.macosxhints.com for casual or systematic tip searching. And of course macosx.com - search if something's been talked before or just ask ;)

Yep, I'm on macoshints helped a bit so far, maybe these books are UK only (?) Did see some of the 'missing manual' series but needed a simple one for my girlfriend as well ;)

The books are in the U.S. I own one, it was helpful in getting started but I toke off on the new OS pretty much on my own but this forum earns the most credit for helping me out the most when I needed it. Anyways, I'm a switcher also. this be my first full year with OS X. I'm thrilled to hear you like it also, such a great OS I never go back.

Browse the How-to section, and you should pick up a number of useful tidbits, especially the "Cool keyboard tricks" part.

I also suggest subscriptions to Mac Addict and Macworld. Both are excellent Mac rags, and I've learned quite a bit from them. Plus, Mac Addict comes with a free CD full of demos, shareware and freeware every month, so you can try-before-you-buy for a lot of software.

I use "rag" as a term of endearment, of course. :)
