Magsafe power supply issue

My son’s computer is having issues. I believe it is either the Magsafe (inside the Mac) not the adapter is failing. (I hope it isn’t the logic board. ) These are the things I have done to check.

Checked out a different battery. The computer powered up and seemed fine. (The battery was not charging when it was plugged into the wall though.) So I know the battery is fine.)
It has to be related to the Magsafe.

Cleaned the magsafe area on the Macbook itself. (This resulted in a green light for a few seconds only) when I plugged it in. After that, it went dead. The computer would not turn on.

I want to be sure that this is only a magsafe issue and not the logic board before I totally give up and have to get a new computer. This was purchased in 2009 and no I didn’t buy an extended warranty. (Shouldn’t need to with the price of the computer! GRRR!!! )

Do you have any videos on how to replace the magsafe (inside the mac)?

Also, where can you purchase this hardware if it is possible to replace it?

I think you should rule out that its not just a faulty AC adapter before you try to attempt replacing a magsafe board. By the way, changing the magsafe board involves removing the logic board for any unibody Apple laptop.

Suggestion: Go to apple store, a Genius will plug in once of their MagSafe adapters into your system... If it powers up/and or charges the battery, then you have eliminated your problem. Otherwise, they'll likely diagnose it for free, then give you an estimate...
