Mail 1.3.11 application

Hi there,

A few days ago I sent an e-mail with a rather heavy file (6.6 MB) attached. The mail went through, but when I tried to erase the mail from the "Sent" folder, somehow the application couldn't process that and it still remains like that after five or six days: there is a perpetual message that says "rebuilding table of contents (60%)" or something to that effect and the only way I can quit the application is by forcing my way out - the normal "Quit" procedure just doesn't work, and the application just stays blocked forever.

Funnily enough I can send and receive mails all the time, although it seems to run much slower than usual. But every time I try to erase a message from the "Received" folder, it just reappears again (even though it has been actually erased). I've also tried to erase sent messages from the "Sent" folder and they just stay there, although I know they actually are NOT. There is no way to eliminate them or drag them to the "Trashcan" folder (you probably don't call it "Trashcan", but you get me, I hope).

At some point (but only once) I got an alert message warning me that damage might be caused to the folders if I opened the application, so I quit (a third choice was: "open only for reading", but I tried this and it went back to the same question).

Any help is welcome.

Thanks a lot,

You might want to try to re-install Mail: First, archive your current Mail program (control-click the Mail application, and on the menu, there should be an archive option). This will put it in a nice .zip folder, and prevent it from running. You will also be able to go back to your old Mail program from this archive if further problems arise. Next, delete the Mail application (not the archive of it). You can then use pacifist (from http://www.charlessoft.com/) to extract the Mail installation from your os x install disks. Once you have the Mail installation extracted, reinstall Mail and you should be set.
