i did not do anything new to my system and it happened all of a sudden today - that is mail.app no longer works. Goliath, Caculator, any Installers and many more utilities. Console dun work too, so cannot even see log or crash reports.
click mail in the dock, it bounces, stops, and nothing shows up. Caclulator opens, but once i use the = key, rainbow dial appears and hangs there. Console opens, and the rainbow dial spins and spins. tried to reinstall only the 10.3.9 combo package, the installer opens, dialog is blank, rainbow dial appears and spins.
so i reinstalled OSX without reformating. All is fine. mail worked. then i installed all the necessary updates from Software Updates. now half the applications dun work anymore. i reinstalled OSX and updates twice with the same outcome.
what is going on with my system? did i caught a virus? why do half the software no longer work. they either just hang there, or not responding. how can i fix this problem?
thank goodness firefox is still alive with internet connection!!
