mail.app and thunderbird.app cant send mail to AOL Users

I have a PowerBook G4 and have OS X 10.4.3 completely updated.

Since Panther, I have had problems with sending email to AOL. Today, using mail.app or the thunderbuird.app client I cannot seem to send any AOL user a message. I receive the following returned mail.

I have insured on many attempts to send a PLAIN TEXT MESSAGE. But what confuses me more at this point is it not only is MAIL.APP it is THUNDERBIRD.APP, too..

I am looking to see if AOL is blocking my domain name but have not found that out at this time.

Any help will be appreciated!!

If it's more than one app that's causing the problem, it seems much more likely that the trouble is originating elsewhere. What's your SMTP connection? Through your ISP, or your domain host?
 
In the meantime, you can set up a gmail account (or hotmail, yahoo, etc) and send mail from there, and set gmail (or whatever) to forward all messages to your personal email address.
 
thank you for your replies. I have three SMTP accounts inclusive of verizon. I will check if my smtp servers are blocked..

It is common practice for ISPs to allow only their own SMTP server to be accessed. This means that smtp.ourdomain.com will work, but smtp.theirdomain.org won't work. The trend is for ISPs that didn't have this restriction to get it. What some may not know is that you are not necessarily required to pair POP3 and SMTP servers. It may be possible to set up an account to receive mail for myname@theirdomain.org from pop.theirdomain.org, but send mail from this account through smtp.ourdomain.com.
