Mail.app choking on phantom message

Hi, I'm new to mac and to this forum AND I'm Danish - so please bear with me... I hope I'm in the right place

Right, I have a MacBook with leopard and everything has been working fine, also Mail. Then 3 days ago I tried sending an email with some 14 photos attached using iphoto photobrowser. So I press send and then realise they are in medium size and the email generated is the size of almost 20 MB! So the "spinning wheel" beside the account name sets in and after quite some time Mail notifies of a "session timeout" - or something, don't remember exactly what it said - so while its offline, I delete the draft. When I activate the account and it tries to reconnect, the spinning wheel sets in for a long long time and all other actions are denied. It then comes with a notification saying somtthing along the lines of " some actions attempted while offline were unsuccessful. The draft will be saved to be re-sent when online." A copy of the huge message is filed under drafts. Then more spinning wheel, same notification, new copy of huge email in drafts folder. This goes on for up to 8 times before it just goes into a passive state, that cannot be reactivated. When application is quit and relaunched, same thing happens.... HELP! I can't use mail now as this is all it does now. New messages are not shown as I cannot send any.

Everything works fine directly from .Mac in firefox. No ploblems there.
Have tried deleting caches and preferences for mail.app in my library. no change. It is still choking on trying to send a message which is nowhere to be found except in cyberspace, not in trash, not in outbox etc...

Please help me. I feel a little crazy here...

With Thanx

Let's try this a different way..
Go to your home folder~library/mail/pop-"yourname"/drafts.mbox/messages
You should find where your mail keeps the actual files. (also the inbox, outbox, etc...)
