Mail.app Corruption after 10.2.1 update!!!

Oh Man, i am Kinda P**sed!

I just downloaded, installed and restarted my iBook, but went to launch Mail, and an 'application icon' appeared in my Dock, bounced, and left! So i tried once more! recieved the same response! So i headed over to my applications folder, and mail had kinda been updated somewhat in the 10.2.1 update, but because my mail.app is NOT in the default 'applications' folder, but a few directories deep, it appears the update didn't allow it to 'patch' the 10.2 mail.app, So now i am left with 2 loose ends (Maybe the attached Finder pic, will help make sense of this!)

...can anybody help?! ... i am P**sed! lol

thanks for ya time! :D

yeah, 10.2.1 didn't search for mail before upgrading. you might want to move mail.app back to its original position and upgrade again so you can get the latest version of it. same deal happened to me.
also, delete and reinstall chimera. that fixes that problem, too. make sure you've got the latest nightly build-- it rocks ^_^.

One suggestion. Do NOT move Apple apps from their original positions. That will solve a lot of problems in the future.

shouldn't we be able to do what we want with the apps without it causing problems? technically, shouldn't we be able to delete them completely? i think apple needs to revise error checking on their updates. 10.2.1 also screwed up my disk copy and i had to reinstall 10.2. obviously, some work needs to be done.

I agree. MacOS should be as flexible as ever. It's not an ideal situation to be obliged to keep Mail etc in de Applications folder. I like to put all 'internet apps' in one folder, for example.

I use a lot of tools and this is the only way to keep it somewhat 'clean'.

Besides, it's not that hard to correct this problem. I expect it's just a temporary thing.

My mail.app still reads last modification date of 7/14 also. But my app is now and always has been right in the Applications folder. Why didn't it get updated?

I had trouble with the 10.2.1 update the day it came out. S/U would stall thru downloading and tell me there was some problem or something. The little progress bar finally did make it all the way but it would still stall.

I tried d/l'ing the update right from Apple that night, too. It would stall before downloading the whole thing so obviously it wouldn't unzip itself.

It wasn't until the next morning until I could get the full download from Apple and install.

It said it was successful but now I see mail.app isn't updated.

What's up? How can I update my mail.app?

P.S. Mail.app works fine on my machine; I just want it updated to the latest.

I say: restart from your 10.2 cdrom and repair priviliges, restart again from cdrom and check disk in the First Aid app.

Then restart and try again.
