Mail.app keeps duplicating mailboxes

Even after restoring practically everything from backups and rebuilding the Mail database and "repairing" my HD from external device (there was nothing to be repaired), Mail.app keeps duplicating my mailboxes: one [correct] full, one empty.

Mail.app: In the duplicate mailbox's settings, instead of the correct server name "localhost" is inserted.

.../Library/Mail: new folders named "POP-username%pop.mailprovider@localhost"

for some reason its viewing your own computer as the server. how many email accounts have you setup currently. can you post a screen shot (apple + shift+F3)?

This is getting stranger and stranger:

In the meantime, I have deleted my Mail.app prefs and imported all emails again. Everything's perfect.

BUT not the same story starts on my other computer (iBook G4)! :-D

What might be the cause of this???
