Mail crashing

Hi there.

Out of the blue my mail app has stopped working.

Each time it starts it now treats me as if i were opening Mail for the first time and asks if I want to import all my messages. When i press continue it does import and finishes with a nice ding! However, at that point, upon clicking 'OK' the mail screen appears and promptly the curser becomes the spinning rainbow wheel and would still be turning now if I hadn't stopped it. Only way out is to force quit.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hopefully you have no email in your Inbox. Now make sure Mail is quit before doing the next listed steps. Also have you email server settings because you will have to add them in again to try this fix.

1. Quit Mail.
2. Navigate to the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and find the file: com.apple.mail.plist. Throw that file to the Trashcan but don't delete it just yet.
3. Launch Mail and manually put in your email server settings and Mail should act normal again without disturbing you Saved email. You Saved email is kept in the folder /YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/.

Hopefully this should fix your problem, Good Luck.

PS: Also remove any Mail add-on (plugins) you have added in the past. Older Mail plugins can do bad things later on after OS X updates.
