One of the biggest problems I have with Mail (in Mac OS 10.2.x) is that it doesn't delete mail off the mail server until it has downloaded *all* mail in a download session (it all happens at the *end* of a download/get session).
If the download is interrupted (dialup drops out, for example) the next time Mail connects it downloads the same mail a second time. Staff at my company are very unhappy about this.
Other email clients delete each mail message off the mail server after it has been downloaded - thus avoiding the problem described above.
Has this been corrected in the new version(s) of Mail due being developed for Panther?
