mail lost

Hi,

my inbox mail was lost in Apple Mail 3.5 (930.3). My system is MacOS X 10.5.6. I cant retrieve the mail anywhere. Tried Library/mail. I see only inbox mail from 1.2.2009. Can anybode help?

How is your mail set up? .mac/me, pop, imap, exchange?
If it's set up to be stored also on server can you see your mails in webmail?

my mail is set up as pop. It is unfortunately set up by default to to delete copies of messages on my web mail server after a week or so. And this is what happened. The messages on my web server were supposed to go first into the deleted folder and then after two days to be permanently deleted, according to the policies of my web mail. Therefore, I dont see any older messages on my web mail server. Appreciate your effort to reply.
