Mail messages disappear from MAIL mailboxes.

I have two computers that use Panther and MAIL. I have noticed a number of times now on both computers that messages disappear from their mailboxes.

The messages vanish according to date. The older ones are removed. For example, I have one mailbox I created in August of last year and I just noticed all messages from July 10 of this year and backward are gone.Vamanos!

This has happened to me a number of times with various mailboxes. Does anyone know why? I like to keep my messages as long as possible as I often use messages as evidence.

In Mail's preferences, under "Accounts", select your mail account in the left-hand sidebar. Then, click "Mailbox Behaviors" and check the length of time that messages are set to be kept for under "Sent", "Junk", "Trash" and others.

Are these messages disappearing from your Inbox, or some other mail folder? Also, what kind of account is it: IMAP, POP or .mac? Could your ISP be imposing some restriction on how long messages can be kept on the server?

I cannot find anything in MAIL (for Panther) called "Mailbox Behaviors."

The disappearing mail is in various incoming mailboxes I have set up including the In box. For outgoing messages, I don't seem be be losing any.

I use POP and leave mail on server about a month. I can leave it on as long as I want as I own the server.
