Mail Password

My mail preferences in Mail (there should really be a better name for it, like iMail) say that it requires authentification and my username and password are saved. Every so often a message pops up asking me for my password. Is there any way to prevent this (seeing as it knows my password)?

Are you using some sort of SBC DSL connection? It's been a recent problem that SBC DSL customers constantly are asked for a password to their mail account, even though the password is defined in both the keychain and Mail's preferences.

One suggestion I have is to delete all keychain items pertaining to that particular account, then check for mail -- you will be asked for your password, and when you enter it, check the box that says something to the effect of "Remember this password in your keychain." That will force a new keychain item to be created and may help.
