Mail problem on Lion - Sent e-mails missing!

1. I moved to Lion on August 9.
2. I have 4 e-mail accounts under mail.
3. Today, I realized that none of my e-mails sent before August 9 in the "sent" folder for one of the accounts were loading - but they were in the sent list.
4. I searched the net, and someone wrote to "rebuild" that account.
When I rebuilt, now all e-mails sent before August 9 have disappeared.

What can I do to retrieve my old sent e-mails for this account. It is a POP account so those e-mails have been deleted from the server too.

Open up Mail the go to Mail's Preferences. Click on the 'Accounts' tab and highlight your affected account. In right hand of the pane click on the mini tab for 'Mailbox Behaviors' and them check out your 'Sent' settings.
