I recently had a problem with very slow launch times for Safari and Mail. I tried to solve this by trashing safari plist and mail plist. That seems to have solved the problem. However now "Mail" will not retrieve mail from my pop account. It will only retrieve mail from my .mac mail account. I can retrieve mail from my pop account using "Outlook Express". All of my account settings appear to be correct. Also all of my advanced settings in mail preferences appear to be correct. Thanks.

Try bringing up mail's activity monitor and connection doctor, both of which are in the "Window" menu in Mail. This should give you a better idea of what is going on.
