Maxtor wont run on my osx! help!!

I´ve got a maxtor onetouch II 100gb external hd. I cant make it work. I have installed the program but yet it wont work. my mac can localize the hard drive, but allthough i have installed it it wont run properly, it still is registered for MS-dos. Anyway, I cant format the ex. hd. SOmeone who knows how to resolve this issue?
