MBP Fan stopped working

A week or two ago I found a program to up the speed of the two fans in my MBP. I bumped the speed up to 4000rpm each, thus drastically reducing the temp. Unfortunately, a little while after using the program, one fan will not work any more. The program reports ~4000rpm on one fan and 0rpm on the other, and the temperature of the computer is hotter. What can I do? BTW, the program was called smcFanController.

Try booting from the installation disk, and see what the fans do. Or, if the MacBook works anything like an iMac, boot into target disk mode by pressing the T key on startup. The fans should run in the first instance, and go to full blast in the second. If the work, then you've got a software problem. If not, you'll have to bring it in for repair, which is covered for 1 year.

In Target Disk Mode, they go full blast, so you'll hear them. iStat pro is the only program (widget) I know of to view fan speed.
