MDD FW 800 running 10.5.4 loads as far as desktop picture, then stops. No icons. Cursor only shows, no dock, nothing on desktop. Tried rebooting, tried with Shift key, resetting PRAM and PMU button, replaced battery, cards and cables all in tight, tried rebooting with install DVD while holding down C key, same results- Very slowly loading desktop picture, then nothing. To restart, I must first unplug the power cord, or else the button won't work.
The same day, my Apple display went black. It powers the computer on and puts it to sleep when the power button is pressed again, but no picture.
Any ideas what is wrong and what can try next? I don't want to start buying replacement parts unless I'm sure of what to replace. Thank you very much, smart people.
