Menu Bar help needed

I have recently set up my new G5 using the new mac set up assistant to transfer my settings from my old Mac. My old Mac was a powerbook with Airport and battery status in the top menu bar. these now appear on my G5 but I do not have Airport or batteries in my G5 therefore when I open the preference pane to switch off the "Show in menu Bar" option, It's not there because the hardware is not there. Can I get ridd of them by editing a pref file in the Library? if now how???
 
I think you can remove it manually if you hold down the command key then click and drag the icon off of the menu bar.....
