messed up internal dvd drive on my iBook G4

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone can help me...I think the internal drive on my iBook is shot. I can get a cd in if I really push, but then it makes a nasty scraping sound as it rotates and won't come out easily (I tried it once, and discovered the problem). I've been using our external DVD burner, but it's a real pain, particularly since I wanted to use the DVD on the airplane to entertain our 3 year old.
Is there any way I can get to it and fix it?

Well changing the optical drive in an ibook is not easy. You can see the steps involved changing one here. If you live in the US you might want to see if you live near an Apple Specialist and see if they would do it for you (at a reasonable price). The other way is hope you have an experienced geek you trust live close to you. Good luck.
