microphone software advice

I am a Mac newbie..

I have a mac mini and would like to speak into an attached usb microphone which I have and then have my voice come out of the speakers at the exact same time.

I have had a look at Garageband and Audacity software but they both require my voice to be recorded first and then played back.

Is there some application that does this preferably open source or at low cost..

Maybe there is something which DJs use or something for Internet radio which would do - but I am having a tough time finding something which I thought would be easy to find.

Thank you,
Tahir

The Developer Tools (aka X-Code) include an application in /Developer/Applications/Audio that does this, and allows you to apply CoreAudio effects on your voice.

However, there is a very real reason why there is no "monitor" function - any USB microphone, or any digitised audio, will have a delay caused by the digitisation process. It may be a microsecond, or as much as two seconds, either way, if you're planning on using your Mac as a PA system, its not really built for that.
