Microsoft has taken over my computer.. Well almost

Pengu

Digital Music Pimp
Uh. Yeah.. I have Office v.X installed, and I used to use Entourage for my email. Since changing to Gyazmail, I decided I might as well remove the "Microsoft Database Daemon" or whatever its called from the Login items pane. Fine. Oh. Whats this, next time i happen to do a top in the terminal, i see it there running again. And this is after several boots. When it did it the first time, i realized it must be cus i open entourage to find an old email, or somethin. But this last time, i havent opened Entourage since i last removed the database daemon from login items. this arvo and the other day i opened powerpoint to watch a thing something sent me.. could that be it? or is it something else? is it word that does it?
or.
ding. i just thought. maybe its to do with that option of using info from your entourage contacts in word documents. oh goddamnit. When oh when will Apple release the rumored Document so i can get rid of office for good?
Woe is me :(

I feel your pain. :)

It looks like the daemon gets launched with any Office app; I get the popups after I've run Word, for instance. It's really annoying since I haven't synced with Entourage in something like 6 months, so all the reminders are about recurring meetings that are no longer relevant, with people I don't even work with anymore...

I haven't bothered to remove it yet, but I'm guessing that if you find the daemon's executable and set it to be non-executable it might fix it, but break 3 other things - this is Microsoft software after all.... ;)
