Microsoft "threatens" the market to drop Windows ;)

As much as I dislike Microsoft and their business behaviour, and as much as I would like to see Linux as the mainstream OS (keep OS X for the enlightened people), first, Microsoft would NEVER drop Windows! They might drop the technology because changing it would be too expensive, but they will never stop to produce an OS...they would be stupid. And if they did, it would be chaos! Sure, recent Linux distribution are great and even usable by non-geek persons, but Windows has it's place in this business....

I laughed my head off when I read this. This is just another example of how Microsoft is using it's monopoly position to stranglehold the market of operating systems.

I know that Microsoft will never follow through with its threat, and I understand that it would make the market into chaos, but hell: I'd love it if Microsoft followed through with its threat. Then people with computers using Windows might actually REALIZE how monopolistic Microsoft is, and plus, they'd be using an unsupported operating system. Furthermore, the chaos ensuing with people trying to get a supported operating system would make Mac OS X look like a very attractive choice (even if they didn't adopt it immediately because of buying new hardware), seeing as it has most mainstream applications, and for those it doesn't, it could still run them in VPC in the unsupported operating system.

With the current VPC OS X version, I'd say they can "walk" those programs in VPC, I wouldn't dare to say "run" them...:D

Hahaha lol. I haven't tried it out myself, but I haven't heard my dad complain about it yet. :)

i heard about this today on the Today show... they said something about Microsoft maybe pulling Windows XP from all the PC's, companies, & stores that sell them... i fell asleep after that headline... so i missed the story...

Is this the corporate equivalant to " I'll just take my ball and go home"... ?
Do they think that they own the only "ball" in the game? I feel bad for anyone who doesn't see this as the "poor me" ploy that it is.

.....and you thought the day would never come.

I told you that you would regret dismissing me! Fools!

Sorry. I was caught up in the moment.:D

That would be a good thing. Really. But I don´t think Microsoft will end Windows production.

As Mac users, I don´t think that this would make us any harm. The only products from Microsoft we use are Office and Internet Explorer.

Uhuh, uhuh! And Age of Empires too!

Actually, I have AOE (the original) and I liked it at first. I tried playing it again recently and I HATE it. Starcraft is my standard, and AOE SUCKS. AoE DOES have 1024x768 resolution, though. I wish Starcraft had that. Anyway... thanks for listening. I don't even know why I posted this.

You know, I'm kind of worried that they will do this...

Hey! Hear me out! This is the way I see it.

They say they have been forced to abandon Windows, but promise users they will support it for one more year while they prepare an alternative.

M$ re-packages Windows into new packaging, hides the web browser or integrates it in a way the DOJ won't complain about, and releases it as M$-WonderOS. It is still Windows, but won't run any old Windows stuff.

They then con most PC users into thinking this new WonderOS is better than Windows, and that it is worth paying $300 per year for a license. And, the worse thing is, they would probably get away with it...

This will never happen. I'm amazed that Microsoft actually even brought this up.

For one, their customers (who don't know any better - and there's a lot of them) would be very unhappy about the platform disappearing. Plus, what are they going to do? Say "welp, that's it, no more support for you"??? For home users, perhaps. But not for enterprise users.

But even more serious is the stockholder response. The number one priority for any publicly traded company is to increase the value of the stock. Killing Windows doesn't do that.

Monkeyboy was bluffing, and not very well. I just hope that the judge sees through the bluff. But so far, she's been very quiet about her leanings, so it's hard to say.

Would be a good start to get Amiga back as trhe supremem ruler of the world...With pirated It came from the desert floppies and porn games.
