I am not sure if this is the best forum so sorry if it belongs somewhere else. One of the professors at my school had a G5 with 150 gig mirrored RAID and one drive failed but his computer was still functioning on the remaining HD. We plug in a new Western Digital 250 gig HD, boot up into the instillation CD and enter into disk utility. It won't let us drag the new hard drive into the RAID container, I partitioned it and it wouldn't let me drag in any partitions either.
I decide to go into the console and rebuilt the RAID that way, it completes, we look into disk utility(still booted from the CD) and it says the raid is functioning correctly so we reboot. Upon reboot it didn't find any operating system and just gives us the circle with a line through it screen.
When we booted from the CD again our raid drives both say offline and when on the screen to select the boot drive it shows 2 drives, when there should only be one(neither booted). I took out the 250 gig drive and it boots from the original drive fine, it won't however boot just from the 250 gig drive or with both of them in there.
Please help with what this problem could be as it is driving me insane. Thanks for any help.
