Modem: automatic dialling and responding

Hi List,

under MacOS X my modem sometimes wants to connect to my ISP without an obvious reason. And then (even worse) if someone calls my phone-number, then the modem tries to answer the phone with a nasty "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep"...

I have a B&W G3 with an internal Apple modem.

Can I change this? How?
