modem hanging on DP867Mhz

I hate Meath
hope someone has some advice, when I connect to the internet by dial-up modem in DP 867 powermac, the modem status says dialing for ages and then says disconnecting.... without ever connecting in the first place. This disconnecting.... message remains indefinitely. I can work with other programmes and even launch new ones during this but if I want to connect to the internet, I have to restart the machine. No new software has been installed recently and no settings have been modified in the past few weeks, anybody have any ideas??
 
what version of X are you running? There was an issue with an older version of X, updating might take care of it...


if not, try changing your modem to internal 56K (V.34 only) on the modem tab of the network preference paine...
