Monitor stays black when falls asleep

I noticed last week that when my iMac running OS 10.1.5 falls asleep it does not come back from blackness. I hit any keys, move mouse. Even when I do the restart button on the side it boots up black. I end up shutting it down or yanking the power (which I know is not good).

Any idea on what is going on.

same thing happend to me. Apple says that it might be a USB conflict. They say to unplug each piece and put them back in one at a time, and testing sleep. For me it was bad RAM. if youve installed new hardware recently, it might be that

Thanks, I will check my USB items. How about Firewire?

dont know, apple didnt mention it, and i didnt have any firewire devices at the time. also, sometimes if you zap the pram it might help...
