Mouse doesn't work !!!!!!!!

My company has just given me a power book G4 without a mouse.
I went to purchase a IOGEAR wireless mouse.
After i charged it for 10 hours, it still didn't work.
I used the usb cable to connect the mouse directly into the computer and it still didn't work.
There is an on/off switch on the mouse, i have flipped it numerously in different sequence start ups for the computer. Out of 25 times the mouse worked 3 times. (i restarted the computer in between)
When it did work, I looked at system preference, under keyboard and mouse
and found that the computer was recognizing it..
When it didn't work , The mouse was not recognized by the computer...
Why is the computer only recognizing the mouse a few times?
Is this a mouse problem?
or is this a computer problem????

Have you tried the mouse in a different computer and a different mouse in your computer to find the source of the problem? It would be almost impossible to tell from here without just testing it. If it is only being recognised a few times then it sounds like it will be a failing connection and more likely the mouse at fault.

Perhaps it has been dropped or damaged but only testing it in another computer will enlighten.

Also check to see if bluetooth is enabled on your powerbook and make sure you are using OsX 10.3.5 or later for that particular mouse.
