mouse is screwy under x

i have a usb logitech cordless trackman wheel mouse and just recently after coming back from my trip (had the mouse plugged in to my powerbook g3 pismo the whole time) when i opened it, it was very jerky, and when i used my computer, or opened rograms, it would start moving slowly. every now and then it stops and then i can use it normally, but i really want it to work, i hate my trackpad..

right after i posted that message, it broke down, now it wont even move, now i keep hitting the connect button on the small station and on the mouse and it works for how long i press it, so if i press the button on the mouse for 20 seconds, i can move it around (still jerky) for 20 seconds, and this is not a good sign, im gonna go check if it works on my siblings computers, ill go check...:confused: :eek:
 
this might sound pretty dumb, but have you checked the batteries?

i have the same mouse and noticed that it gets pretty strange for the four or five days prior to the batteries dying entirely
