mouse stops working

G3 iBook + Apple mouse... stops working after a while - fine again after restart.

Routinely repair permissions and run Disk Warrior etc - problem returns.

Any prefs I can trash?
Suggestions appreciated. Please and thanks.

Wireless?

If so, exact same thing here. I'v learned to live with it. About once a month, when I wake the sleeping iMac (17" 800mhz, OSX 2-3.7) the logitech wireless mouse is unresponsive. If I plug in a mouse, the wired mouse works fine. Reboot fixes the wireless.

Don't know if this helps or sounds similar.

Thanks. And no, not wireless - plain ol' corded.

'twas fine until the most recent Panther update.

I seem to remember installing mousezoom ages back (it's a machine I rarely now use) so perhaps that's the issue.

You have some choices. Trash or uninstall Mousezoom. Make sure you get rid of the preference file in Home>Library>Preferences.

Check the version you have installed - recent version is 2.1 but that has a date of 3/2002.

Check the System Preferences>keyboard & Mouse panel.

There is a preference file but it holds all your system preferences.
com.apple.systempreferences.plist

Thanks - the mouse cable is fine... works on other machines and other mice have same problem on iBook.

Mouse zoom already gone. No better.

Have now trashed system preferences - hopefully ok.

Also recently refusing to sleep - immediately wakes when slept.

i had that problem back on a old strawberry imac. it would come back though if i unplugged it and plugged it back in. can't say i ever figured out what was wrong though. after an os update it never had that problem again.

i guess that was no help at all. don't hate me.

I have a kvm-switch, sometimes I get the same lockup, always after switching back from using the keyboard/mouse/screen on my SunBlade, happens only in 5% of the cases. When it happens, nothing helps, except plugging the USB cable into the other port on my G4.
