Moving between two wireless networks

I have an airport setup at home and a new Wireless Linksys router at my office. I reconfigured my powerbook to join the network with the best signal. A friend of mine did the same and said it was easier for going between networks. However every time my computer wakes from sleep I have to manually go to the menu bar and select the wireless network to use. My friend said he doesn't have this problem. He said he can go all over NYC with different networks popping up providing him signal. But my signal at home and the office is greyed out till I manually select the network.

Does anyone have an answer to this quandry?
 
When your computer wakes from sleep, give it a minute to detect the network on its own. It should connect automatically.
